“A Cute but thought provoking conversation indeed”
Amazed by the beautiful and magical explanation of the mother to pacify her son’s snoopiness I couldn’t help myself feel proud to visit this must destination “Wagah Attari Border”
The Border fencing barbed wire
The little ones inquisitiveness can be truly justified by the electrifying ambience of the place that magnifies the Indianism within each one of us.
India and Pakistan Flag
With every spur of moment that we spend in this divine spot you will feel the patriotism triggering through your veins and sense the strife both the nations perceived since their very existence.
Some history about Wagah Border:
Wagah or Attari Border, in Punjab, India, is the only boundary road crossing between the countries of India and Pakistan.
The vacant space in the neighbouring country
Wagah is a border town straddling the line between Pakistan and India, 29 km from the town of Lahore on the Pakistani side and 27 km from Amritsar on the Indian side
Lying on the historic Grand Trunk Road, near the holy city Amritsar, it is a fully operative border through which people and cargo move between the two countries.
Infact the famous Samjhauta Express from Lahore to Delhi passes through Wagah. The last station on the Indian side is Attari.
Every evening, before sunset, the armed forces of the respective countries take part in a joint and elaborate ‘lowering of the flag ceremony.
The enigma of the ceremony is so high on the mood elevators that no emotions is a match for the melancholic zeal of the sequence of events that manifests here to celebrate the flag lowering ceremony between the two neighboring countries which are divided by borders yet unified by infinite modus.
When you reach Wagah there is a series of mandate security checks that you need to go through and then you can walk your way to the open air auditorium. It is always advisable to reach early so that you can designate yourself a seat of your choice and manage to some fantastic pictures of the border.
As the time elapses and the clock nears the commemoration, you will witness huge crowd gathered, all ready with their DSLR’s or mobiles to record the event.
The event starts with some high volume patriotic callout, tuning in the beats of Rang de Basanti and lady BSF jawans marching their way concurrently with pride and honor.
Lady BSF Jawans marching with pride
Followed by them were the school kids performing on “Bharat humko jaan se pyara hai”, the cute expressions on their faces and the fearlessness in their eyes will herald a deep sense of tenacity in every soul of audience.
The finale takes places when the respective flags of each country is lowered, folded and paraded to a designated storage facility with a brief aphoristic handshake between soldiers on both sides. It truly is a spectacle unlike any other I’ve witnessed before in my life.
As rightly pointed by the little child, for the commoners like us ………
“the ebb and flow of patriotism varies throughout the year with its sudden exponential rise during the national festivities and subsequent lowering down during the other days of the year .. but for the jawaan’s serving here the vitality of Indianism “the spirit of free India” is evasive and bountiful.”
I walked into my office washroom and as I thrust the door open I was welcomed with many unpleasant faces of our office female janitors who were busy chatting with their daily 3 pm chai-shai talks …Baffled and puzzled I replied them back with a sweet smile and instantly all the eyes sparkled and faces blushed with happiness….
This is how contagious a Smile can be…without the use of sheer words it expresses and digs in deeper into our heart…
Well it was supposed to be the last long weekend of 2017 and I was desperately searching for a hop out with ease on my pocketbook and after a long chase I decided to go for Mahabalipuram.
Mammalapuram as they used to call it, is one of the most enticing sea side town of the southern India. Just a click away from Chennai this little town is miniature South Goa with a touch of placidness and serenity.
This little town holds great weight-age in terms of historic architectures and temple ruins.
Being a patron of any Dance form and knowing the fact that Dec – Jan is that righteous moment for this sea shore town to host the great Indian Dance festival I was hardboiled to embark this journey of cultural art and architecture.
Nevertheless my decision did pay me huge rewards!
